Beards and mustaches have cycled in and out of popularity over the past centuries. According to the American Mustache Institute, facial hair at its highest level of popularity and acceptance since the 1970s. Interestingly, both increases in popularity occurred during the times that America was at war. There are lots of different beard styles to choose from, so you can choose a style that is uniquely you.
Decide Which beard styles you like and dislike.
1 Determine the beard styles you like and dislike. Look at pictures of different styles, from basic to the goatee beard to the hollywoodian. Make a list of possibilities to limit your search for the right beard.
2 Think of maintenance. Decide how much time you are willing to put in to keep your beard. For example, requires a soul patch you ever shave all other facial hair around it, while a full beard requires much less maintenance. If you’re looking for a simple, non-time-consuming beard, you might want to choose a larger, thicker style.
Consider Your Face Type
3 Think of your face type. Some beard styles look horrible on some people because their face is simply not designed in a way that makes facial hair flattering. For example, if you have a round face, a circle beard looks good on you, but you might want to stay away from the beard with long sideburns.
Try different styles
4 Try different styles. Sometimes the best way to discover your favorite style is by experimenting. Solicit the opinions of others. If you do not like your new beard, shave it or trim it to a new style.
